That Android based gaming console, Ouya, is on track to rival the Pebble Watch as one of the biggest Kickstarter success stories. About 24 hours after the Kickstarter project was launched, the group behind the console has over 25,000 backers who have pledged a total of $3.2M. The project is fully funded, but there are still more spots available if you want to grab the $99 unit.
If you’re not familiar with the Ouya, it’s an Android-based gaming console with a Tegra 3 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.0, USB and a 1080P HDMI connection to a TV. There’s also a wireless controller with two analog joysticks, a d-pad and eight action buttons. The entire system is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The company wants to mass produce these Android gaming devices and hopes to release an SDK for developers. You can read more out the Ouya on its Kickstarter page.
