Google Maps for Android keeps getting better and better. Their latest gig involves adding an additional indoor maps, covering more than 20 popular U.S. museums including the de Young Museum in San Francisco, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Cincinnati Museum Center, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History and 17 Smithsonian museums, plus a zoo.
To take advantage of the new maps, simply open Google Maps on your Android device in the museum of interest and tap “My location” from where you will be able to get indoor walking directions. Moreover, you can plan your route from exhibit to exhibit, easily identifying points of interest along the way.
And that’s just a start with more museums adding their floor plans to Google Maps as we speak, including the SFMOMA, The Phillips Collection, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the National WWII Museum in New Orleans… Pretty cool though we hope to see the capability getting more international content. 😉
