According to Florian Mueller of FOSS Patents, the Mannheim Regional Court has ruled in favor of Microsoft in a patent infringement case against Motorola. According to the decision, Motorola’s Android devices infringe on Microsoft’s File Allocation Table (FAT) patent. The FAT patent covers a multiple file name referencing system that stores multiple file names (both short and long names) in a single file.

The Redmond company can enforce an injunction that would ban Motorola Android devices. The injunction will go into effect once Microsoft pays a €10 million bond. Microsoft can also request a recall of the infringing products and ask for damages for the infringement.
