In another Olympic infographic, we compare the difference between Beijing and London games. These figures are impressive and scary at the same time, with visitors and we’ll most likely see a network outage during the games. Here’s the rundown:

Then & Now – Beijing 2008 – London 2012

  • Smartphones sold – 139.3 million – 657 million
  • Facebook users – 100 million – almost 900 million
  • Twitter users – 6 million – 140 million
  • AppStore downloads – 300+ million – 25+ billion
  • iOS market share – 8.2% – 22.9%
  • Android market share – 0.5% – 56.1%
  • BlackBerry market share – 16.6% – 6.9%
  • U.S. mobile video users – 4 million – 33.5 million

Some other Olympic figures:

  1. 82 of London’s 270 Underground stations are equipped with free Wi-Fi for the games
  2. More than 140,000 NFC contactless payment terminals rolled out in UK prior to the Games
  3. “The Olympic Games” are liked by more than 3 million Facebook users
  4. Over 1,000 Olympians are hooked-up on the Olympic Athletes’ Hub, featuring live chat with athletes.
