Samsung’s superphone is no longer reserved for major carriers only, with Ting planning to join the party within three to six weeks. Relying on Sprint’s LTE network, the MVNO will offer the 16GB Galaxy S III for $529, and the 32GB model for $579. Of course, that’s the price of the device alone, requiring that you also buy some text, minutes and data.

Ting has been getting some attention recently for its unique mix-and-match approach to contract-free plans. Their website allows you to select how much minutes, texts and data you need and create a plan that truly fits your needs. In addition, you also get some freebies along the way like Voicemail, Picture & Video messaging, 3-way Calling, Caller ID, Tethering and Mobile Hotspot.

Finally, it’s worth adding that aside from the Samsung Galaxy S III, Ting also announced two other phones – LG Optimus Elite (in white) and Samsung Transform Ultra.

Great to see more mention of Ting, but there is the really really unique thing about them that I wish more articles would mention.  It’s not just “select how much minutes, texts and data you need and create a plan that truly fits your needs”.  The truly amazing part that NO other carrier does is that at the end of each month, your plans are automatically adjusted based on your actual usage, so you are billed for whatever sized “bin” of minutes, messages, and data you actually used.  So no crazy overages because they apply the appropriately sized plan, and if you don’t do much of something in a particular month, you aren’t stuck paying for it anyway.  So what I have been really excited for is a carrier that will let me have a smart phone without charging me hundreds of dollars a year for a data plan that I’m hardly ever going to use since I’m in wifi networks almost all of the time.
