A rumor from iMore suggests that Apple may update its entire line of iOS devices with a new, smaller dock connector. This change could be announced as early as September 12 and would extend to the new iPhone, new iPod nano and new iPod touch.

In an interesting move, Apple may also refresh its iPad line. Just released earlier this year, the new iPad 3 would get a small update which would include the smaller dock connector. Apple is also rumored to be working on a mini iPad (7-inch) which would also sport the new, smaller connector as well as a rear-mounted mic and a modified internal design that would reducing any heat issues.

Though the iPad refresh is a new rumor to hit the mill, leaked information about a smaller dock connector have circulated since early this year.
