There’s a new product trying to raise some cash (and awareness) at Kickstarter. Called Ubi, it’s a screen-less, Android-powered, voice-activated computer that plugs into a wall outlet. Yes this means that you talk to Ubi and it talks back to you.

The applications that are planned to ship with Ubi include voice-enabled Internet search, speakerphone , indicator light that changes based on events like weather and stock prices, home speaker system with sound piping, virtual assistant (audio calendar, feed reader, podcast etc), voice memos, alarm clock, intercom system, baby monitor, noise pollution monitor and remote control for the climate of your home (through web enabled thermostats like Nest).

Folks behind this project see Ubi as a great device for both experienced users (i.e. geeks) as well as those who have visual, hearing or mobility impairments.

Ubi will be turned into a real product if the goal of $36,000 is reached. You can secure your unit for $189 and get additional information from this page at Kickstarter
