iZettle comes to Android for lucky few in Sweden

The mobile payments company iZettle is expanding its service to Android users, allowing them to accept smart card payments while on the go. The special version of the reader has been unveiled and at the moment it only supports select Samsung smartphones — namely Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note — with other devices to be included in the near future. Unlike the iPhone version, iZettle for Android connects to the phone’s 3.5mm headset jack (a la Square) while the rest of the credit card payment process is unchanged – simply put your smart card in the reader and follow the on-screen procedure.

The beta test is underway in Sweden where interested merchants can either get the iZettle device form a number of local stores or order their unit online from Telia. After that phase is over, we expect the rollout across Scandinavia and then the UK…
