Yesterday evening Square suffered an hour long outage, which caused some payments from going through. Not only did the company’s mobile application get hit with the outage, but so did its site Squareup.com. This news comes after the company recently struck up a partnership with coffee giant Starbucks.
The Next Web reached out to Square spokesman Aaron Zamost, and he told the publication:
“Some users experienced a connectivity issue late this evening, during which time our website was inaccessible and some payments could not be processed. The issue was quickly recognized by our engineering team and has been fixed. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused and we’re taking the appropriate steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
Square is a super popular payment service that exploded onto the scene less than two years ago. With its card reader that’s compatible with Android and iOS devices has grown to processing $5 billion of transactions per year. The company plans to continue that growth with its recent $275/month flat fee plan for small businesses making up to $250,000 per year. I checked my personal Square account, and everything seems to be back to normal.
Were any business owners out there effected by the outage yesterday evening?
