Amazon is sending invitations for a press event to be held September 6th at 10:30AM PT in Santa Monica, California. The invitations only said “Please join us for an Amazon press conference” and didn’t provide any details on the topic for the event.

Earlier reports suggested Amazon is working on a update to its Android-powered Kindle Fire tablet, and the company may use this shindig to unveil its latest tablet device. Rumors suggest the Kindle Fire 2 will include 7-inch high-resolution display (1280×800) and most likely a faster processor.

The $199 Fire was a big hit when it was first introduced in November 2011. It slowly fizzled out when the buying frenzy of the holiday shopping season was over and a new iPad was introduced. Now that the Nexus 7 is available with Jelly Bean, a quad-core processor and a starting price of $199, the Kindle Fire has fallen even further out of favor.

Hopefully, Amazon will have something exciting for us to talk about when it hosts this event in the next few weeks.
