Jury requests extended deliberations in Samsung vs. Apple case

Charged with an extremely complicated process, the jury in the Samsung vs. Apple patent infringement case in the U.S. has requested an extra hour of deliberation time before the weekend break, according to a TG Daily report. Traditionally, jurors would have wrapped up their discussions by 4:30pm, though they’ll end at 5:30 today as they work through the case. The move signals one of two possible scenarios: either the jury is near reaching a verdict, and want an extra hour to finish up, or they are working through an important issue and want to wrap up that discussion while it’s fresh in their minds.

As the case is fairly complicated, with the jurors being given near 100 page jury instructions and an equally lengthy verdict form, it is highly unlikely that the jurors have reached a verdict in just a few days. Most analysts are expecting the case to see a resolution at the middle to end of next week. We certainly could be surprised by an afternoon verdict, but we won’t be holding our breaths. Stay tuned.
