Samsung has finally taken then veil off of the its very first Android-powered camera. The Galaxy Camera features a 16 megapixel camera, 21x optical zoom, and Android 4.1. The latter of which may indeed the most surprising of said features.

The Galaxy Camera isn’t just some snazzy camera that happens to be running Android. It’s actually quite the opposite. While the shooter’s specs are impressive enough, the device is also a powerful Android device that is rocking a 4.8 inch HD display, 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos processor, support for 3G and 4G data, WiFi, WiFi-Direct (for S-Beam like sharing) and more. Sadly, there’s no SD card support, and users will have to deal with a microSD card instead. Either way, it’s easy to see that Samsung as essentially thrown a good camera on one of its smartphones, so we can’t complain too much.

Samsung didn’t skimp on the software elements of the Galaxy Camera, either. There are a host of shooting and editing modes for the device. The Photo Wizard allows for “professional quality edits on the go,” and the Movie Wizard will do the same with your celluloids.

If you’re looking to get a comparable camera that’s a little smarter than your average point and shoot, then you might want to take a look at the Galaxy Camera. It will be interesting to see if the device takes off, and whether or not the Nikon S800c can take it on. Only time will tell.
