Amazon has released some pretty inconspicuous news about its Android slate. The e-commerce heavyweight announced that it is sold out of all its Kindle Fire tablets. This no doubt fuels speculation that the company is planning to show off its newest Fire in an event its holding next week. Rumors have pinged the next Kindle Fire to carrying similar specs to those on Google’s Nexus 7 tablet made by Asus. In a press release, Amazon praised the great success it has obtained with the Kindle Fire.
“We’re grateful to the millions of customers who have made Kindle Fire the most successful product launch in the history of Amazon,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO. “This has been a big year for digital products on Amazon—all of the top 10 sellers on Amazon.com since Kindle Fire launched just less than a year ago are digital products. Kindle Fire is sold out, but we have an exciting roadmap ahead—we will continue to offer our customers the best hardware, the best prices, the best customer service, the best cross-platform interoperability, and the best content ecosystem.”
Okay, “best content ecosystem” is pushing it a bit. Everyone is expecting to see the new Kindle Fire next week. It’s no coincidence that the company decided to announce that it has sold all of its current models, just ahead of its event in Los Angeles. It’s hugely important for the company to take the lid off on its latest Android tablet, especially since Google has taken all the spotlight away with its Nexus 7. Even worse, Amazon has to grab as much mind share as it can before Apple announces its rumored iPad mini.
