If you’re looking for a decent great Android smartphone but don’t want to commit on any carrier contracts, T-Mobile and Walmart may have something for you. Now you can get yourself the Samsung Galaxy S II for $299 from the big retail chain. Of course, you’ll also need some minutes, texts and data, and T-Mobile suggests its Monthly4G no annual contract plan of $30 per month or higher. That $30 per month gets you unlimited Web, with the first 5 GB at up to 4G speeds; unlimited text; and 100 minutes of talk, with 10 cents per minute after the first 100 minutes.

Alternatively, you may want use Walmart’s Family Mobile service, which too is a monthly, no-annual-contract plan that costs $45 per month for the first line and $35 per month for additional lines, and provides unlimited access to Web surfing, data and social media for all lines on the account (base plan includes the first 250MB per month at up to 3G speeds)…

Seems like a good deal at first read, but why choose this over the Gnex which is $50.00 more and works on wither T-Mobile or ATT?

Not even $50 more.  It is $299 + $30 = 329, making it only $21 cheaper than the Galaxy Nexus.  Certainly a personal preference but I will take a better PPI any day of the week.
