The 7″ Android 4.1-running sub-$200 Nexus 7 brings a premium Android experience in a cheap package. The device was the first launched running Google’s latest version of the Android operating system, version 4.1 codenamed “Jelly Bean.” To get to such a low price, Google and ASUS made key omissions in the slate’s design, most notably the lack of a rear-facing camera. Users instead are limited to taking pictures and video conferencing via a 1.2 megapixel front-facing slate, which until today was limited to 480p when recording video.
Members of the XDA-Developers community posted a modification last week that allows anyone with a small tolerance for device hackery the ability to update their devices to allow for 720p video recording. With a 1.2 megapixel shooter, the quality still won’t be stellar by any means, but original poster hillbeast noted marked improvements over the 480p videos previously recorded.
