Virgin Mobile to launch MVNO in Turkey?

Virgin Mobile is looking to expand to another market – Turkey. The company is reportedly in talks with various parties to launch services in the growing Turkish market.

The problem with Turkey is in the fact that there is a taxation issue which may hold up any launch as the government levies a 15% tax on sales from the MVNO and its hosting network. This will effectively push up retail prices, making it harder for Virgin to compete. As we all know, Virgin Mobile typically offers low-cost services targeted to the youth market.

In addition to Turkey, there is a sizeable ex-pat customer base across Europe where Virgin Mobile already has operations (at least in some markets)…
