The first smartphones running Mozilla’s own mobile OS aka Firefox Mobile may be launched in early 2013. Chinese ZTE and TCL (which makes Alcatel-branded products) are on board to make compatible devices, with ZTE saying its first Firefox Mobile smartphones will launch in the first quarter of next year.

Additionally, in an interview to The Wall Street Journal, the company’s Executive Vice President He Shiyou also reconfirmed plans to make Windows Phone 8 handsets and release them either later this year or in early 2013. We’ve already seen few ZTE smartphones on that blurry photo and we hope it won’t take too long to get the official press release.

Back to Firefox Mobile. As far as we know, smartphones running Mozilla’s mobile platform should be affordable, most likely using some single-core processor. We’ve heard that Brazil will be among the first markets to try it out though we still don’t have a precise date. As soon as we get new information we’ll let you know. Stay tuned in the meantime…
