RSS news feed monetization company Mediafed is acquiring Taptu, known for its mobile news aggregation platform that allows users to “DJ their news.” Mediafed’s goal is to bring together two powerful services and eventually take on services like Flipboard. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Mediafed has built a profitable and fast-growth platform for monetizing RSS, working with over 1,200 premium publishers around the globe such as The New York Times, The Guardian, Le Monde, El Mundo and Sueddeutsche to name a few. Taptu’s mobile news reader is one of the most popular such apps across multiple platforms, including iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Samsung and mobile Web. Its technology is supported by numerous accolades like The Meffy Award for Best Content Discovery & Personalization, 148Apps’ Best App Ever Award for Best News App on the Android Platform and was named one of the best ways to read books, magazines and newspapers by The Wall Street Journal in August 2012.
