Sony unveiled a new smartphone in Japan – Xperia AX, which is a local version of Xperia V. In that sense it rocks Qualcomm’s dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 13-megapixel camera on the back, 4.3-inch 720p HD screen, 3G/4G (LTE) and Wi-Fi connectivity, memory card slot, while Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich is running the show. In addition, there are some Japan-specific customizations to enable the wide-spread mobile payments and other services.
Sony failed to mention the release date, but since the Xperia V is expected to hit stores for the Christmas shopping season, the chances are its Japanese counterpart will be available soon, as well.
