Huawei Ascend Mate is the Chinese company's upcoming phablet with 6.1-inch 1080p HD screen and 1.8GHz quad-core CPU

Looks like Huawei is looking to enter the nascent phablet market, currently dominated by Samsung and its Galaxy Note devices (though LG is also experimenting with the Optimus Vu). The Chinese company is apparently working on something similar and while we don’t have an image to show you, we’re hearing that the Ascend Mate will be more powerful than what other companies are offering, packing a 6.1-inch 1080p screen and Huawei’s own 1.8GHz quad-core K3V3 CPU. The rumor goes on suggesting that the 9.9mm-thick Ascend Mate will also comes with 2GB of RAM and more-than-decent 4,000mAh battery.

Personally I never like phablets as they are too big for me, but I know some people love ‘em. And now I’m wondering how big these things can get – device with a 6.1-inch screen is practically a tablet in my book. What do you say?

As I stated before and will continue to say the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is the BEST all purpose/entertainment device ever made. Nothing will be better than the Galaxy Note 2 for the next 180 days period. I wish new jacks well who decide to enter this market ie HTC and now supposed HUAWEI. They will all the help possible to compete with Samsung from a software standpoint alone.

    Hi,

I’ve been punting for 6 inch Smartphone/phablets for the past 2 years and I’ll certainly settle for a 6.1 inch device !

Especially one from as substantial a player as HUAWEI.

I sense this is a VERY strategic and powerful move by HUAWEI – whilst all but the minor Chinese manufacturers seem to be reluctant to tackle the 6 inch genre.

However, what the Chinese are making seem to be very good.

I imported one such, called the ‘Horizon’; and it is working VERY WELL after a full month trials. Its only minor ‘drawback’ is the Android OS is supplied at 4.0.2 and apparently will not be updated. Its UK landed cost … including VAT and Customs Duty paid … was less than £160 !

It was supplied with the new-style ‘thin’, exchangeable, back and front cover. it seems to run everything I send to it from Google Play and it’s SAT NAV function has served me well on several journeys in the UK.

If the editorial staff will permit me to say so … keep watching here (otherwise I’m sure you’ll never see this sentence !!) … 70plus-feeling50 … for further stories about the rise of the 6 inch and 7 inch Phablet marketplaces.
