Apple has announced this morning just how many iPads the company sold on opening weekend. The company claims the 3 million iPads sold is a launch record for the iPad line, and represents double the number of iPads (3rd generation) sold on opening weekend back in March. Of course, the company had two new iPads up for sale this weekend, and Apple was particularly pleased with how the iPad mini sold on opening weekend, with CEO Tim Cook stating Apple “practically sold out of iPad Minis.”
“Customers around the world love the new iPad mini and fourth generation iPad. We set a new launch weekend record and practically sold out of iPad minis. We’re working hard to build more quickly to meet the incredible demand.” – Tim Cook, CEO, Apple Inc.
Sales for the new line of iPads will likely pick up in coming weeks ahead of the ever-important holiday season. Assuming the demand for iPads continues, Apple’s likely going to have a monumental 4th quarter after mixed performance in Q3.
