According to Sina News, Foxconn may be eyeing the US as a location for its next manufacturing plants. The company is allegedly looking at Detroit or Los Angeles as potential factory sites. Foxconn president Terry Gou is heading up the effort to bring Foxconn to the US and will set up training programs in the US and Asia for engineers who will man the company’s factory’s stateside.
Foxconn made headlines earlier this week when it confirmed that it was struggling to keep up with demand. Off the record, company executives have said the iPhone 5 is the most difficult device ever to assemble. It also allegedly scratches easily, which has increased quality control measures and slowed down overall production. Industry experts expect Foxconn would use any US plant to manufacture LCD televisions, which are easy to assemble because of automation, and not smartphones or tablets.
