LG is entering the nascent market of child-focused tablets with its Kids Pad. The device is now available in South Korea and as I’m writing this we don’t know whether the company will ever release it in the West. Price wise, LG is asking 299,000 won for the Kids Pad, the amount that translates into some $276 or 216 EUR. Kinda steep when we know that the same money gets you the Nexus 7. However, this tablet can sustain drop tests and is made exclusively from non-toxic materials, which is a big plus in every parent’s purchasing decision.

As for the OS it runs, we suspect it’s Android but the Korean giant doesn’t mention that. There some app store with apps deemed safe for kids, but the big surprise is that the Kids Pad uses some sort of cartridges for storing apps and games. Out of box, the tablet comes with a single cartridge that helps kids learn English. Additional cartridges with new apps will be sold separately…

Not sure what to think of it. Perhaps getting a regular tablet with some solid case is a better way to go. What do you think?
