AT&T is selling smartphones at a record pace this holiday shopping season. According to CEO Ralph de la Vega, the carrier has already sold 6.4 million handsets in the first two months of the quarter. This would give AT&T its second best quarter of all time and would increase its yearly sales to a whopping 26 million smartphones, one million more than what was projected earlier this year.

“What we’re seeing is tremendous response in the marketplace. Excitement is at all time high. I feel very good about momentum going into December.”

AT&T is also seeing strong tablet sales, spurned by the carrier’s promotion that knocks $100 off the price of any tablet when a customer signs up for a two-year data plan agreement. For the first time ever, the carrier is also offering tablets from all the major platforms including iOS, Android, Windows 8 and Windows RT.
