Superstar CEO Marissa Mayer announced on the Yahoo blog a new mail client for iOS, Android, Windows 8 and the web. Mayer in the blog post explained to readers how the company has listened and grown from the mistakes of the past, adding “ You’ve told us loud and clear that you want fewer distractions when it comes to email.” In the blog, Mayer’s message was clear that speed was the key driver behind the revamped mail client, and lord knows how much of an improvement this is compared to the mail client of the past.
“ We’ve redesigned the new version of Yahoo! Mail with speed in mind — getting through your emails is faster than ever before. We’ve also made your inbox more intuitive and easier to navigate, allowing you to focus on what matters most: your messages. And, because mobile is everything these days, Yahoo! Mail now has a consistent look and feel across devices.”
Having a quick glimpse of the app, it seems to look much cleaner than the old version. Interestingly, it resembles the new Gmail app on iOS, with Yahoo’s traditional purple color fonts instead. What users will also notice is the app’s list of folders hiding in a pane on the left side of the screen, which has become damn-near commonplace for most apps today.
The revamped mail experience should hit web users “over the next few days,” the iOS and Windows 8 apps are available for download, but the new Android app for some reason isn’t appearing in the Google Play store. It’s no doubt that Yahoo is improving in a big way, as Mayer ended the blog post saying “this is just the beginning.”
