Sony Mobile keeps us in the loop about Xperia handset updates

It always sucks to get left behind on updates, so Xperia Tipo, U, Miro, and Sola users, brace yourselves. Sony Mobile recently posted on it’s blog what devices would and wouldn’t be receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade, and the devices above just didn’t make the cut.

Most of the devices not getting the Jelly Bean update are lower to mid-range models, but it’s still not an easy pill to swallow if you’re an owner of one of these phones.

It’s not all bad news in Xperia-land, though.

  • The Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V are set to get the Jelly Bean update sometime between February and March.
  • The Xperia P, Xperia J and Xperia go are all set to receive some Jelly Bean love by the end of March
  • The Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia ion and Xperia acro S will be receiving the update in the following weeks after the Xperia P, J, and go.
It’s obvious that Sony has its hands full with updates at the moment, and this could indeed be another determining factor as to why some handsets will not receive Jelly Bean. Updates take time, and whether or not a certain handset can handle an update still doesn’t mean it will indeed receive it. With the ten handsets that are getting updated to Jelly Bean, it might not have been worth the time and effort  for the company to get Jelly Bean up and running on something like the Xperia Tipo. We’re sure that owners of the snubbed phones will think differently, but there’s a reason why we suggest never getting the “free” phone.

We know at sucks, but at least the devices aren’t stuck on Gingerbread. Am I right?
