iOS 6 Do Not Disturb suffers a New Years fail

Well, the New Year is here, and so is another major iOS feature fail. iPhone users are reporting that the ‘Do Not Disturb’ feature (which lets folks turn off notifications at night), stopped working sometime between the transition from 2012 to 2013. Strangely, manually flipping Do Not Disturb from off to on again seems to fix the problem.

If you’re an avid user of Apple iOS devices then you’d know that this is nothing new, as the company always seem to struggle when it comes to features having to with time based functions like alarms.

Anyway, Do Not Disturb is an awesome feature that I miss. When I used it on my iPhone, I usually had all notifications/alerts turned off, except for the important folks on my favorite list trying to reach me — only after multiple attempts, though. I hate being bothered during me time.

Did anyone have problems with this feature? Also, did the workaround fix the issue?

No, I did not experience this on my iphone 4s with iO6, perhaps iphone 5 issues or users momentarily forgetting it does not work when the screen is active.

My DoNotDisturb is on a schedule to be disabled at 7am each morning. My DoNotDisturb was still Enabled at 8:15am this morning, so i had to disable it manually.

The problem didn’t hit me until today. Manually switching off then on did NOT fix the issue. I tried changing the times and turning phone off and back on. Nothing helped!

  • I have an iPhone 4 with iOS6 and turning the DND feature on and off does not help.

I missed a couple of important scheduled calls this morning, which is no big problem but doesn’t look very good. I thought I’d muted the phone (4s iOS6), then noticed the DND icon next to the time. It’s set to be active between 2345 and 0700, but was still active at 1045. Then I found this article.

Switching off then on doesn’t work for me, so I’ve switched it off manually.
