CES 2013: Hands on with the Acer Iconia B1

Acer’s newest addition to it’s family of tablets, the Iconia B1-A71, is promising to be an affordable and functional option for new tablet users. With models starting at $99, this tablet is set to take on the Kindle Fire and other low end tablets.

Acer definalty added a bit of flair to the design to set it apart from a bevy of similar looking 7″ tablets. The body of the tablet is reminiscent of the iPhone 3gs, but with a blue stripe in place of the iPhone’s silver one. On the bottom left hand corner of the tablet is a blue triangular grip, which provides a surprising amount of support when holding the tablet. On the top of the unit is a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and the microUSB slot lies on the bottom of the tablet.

The Iconia B1 ships with the Android Jelly Bean OS, a dual-core 1.2ghz processor, 8GB of internal storage, and 512 MB DDR3 memory. It sports a 7-inch 1,024×600 resolution display, a microSD expansion slot and a front facing 0.3 megapixel camera.

While the specs of the Iconia B1 might not blow most of us away, it is an amazing offering for the price. It offers some things other similarly priced tablets do not, namely a microSD slot access and Android Jelly Bean.
