Philips will soon launch a new Android smartphone that not only has a big screen, but also dual-SIM capability. In that sense, the forthcoming Philips W8355 will compete head to head with Samsung’s Galaxy Grand i9082, which is a slightly better device.

Specs wise, aside from two SIM card slots – Philips’ baby packs a 5.3-inch qHD (540×960 pixels) screen, 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich is running the show. As for the size, it measures 147.679×10.9 mm.

Sammy’s phone on the other hand has a faster CPU clocked at 1.2Ghz (also dual-core), 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel camera, with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean providing the latest bells and whistles the platform has to offer. Then again, it has a smaller 5-inch screen with WVGA (480×800 pixels) resolution.

When it comes to availability, the Philips W8355 will most likely be limited to users in China and some other parts of Asia…

So this Philips phone won’t come to Europe or States. That’s bad for Philips – they could make some serious cash shipping these kind of devices to the west…
