Huawei is trying to redefine what an entry-level smartphone means with its new G520 smartphone. The China-only device will hit the local stores on January 21st with a price tag of 1,399 yuan, which translates into some $225.

What makes this product significant is that it has a quad-core CPU and a large IPS screen with diagonal of 4.5 inches. Sure enough, that’s a Mediatek-made processor (MT6589) and that gotta count for something, as their gear is known for their affordable prices.

In addition, the G520 also comes with a 5-megapixel rear camera, and “everything but enough” 512MB of RAM. Yeah, that kinda sucks but then again, we’re talking about a smartphone that costs just $225.

Finally, in case you wonder, we’ve no idea whether this baby will ever be available outside of China. If I had to guess, I would say – no…
