With so many mobile applications hitting various app stores every day, it’s no surprise that app discovery is becoming a big business. The smart companies are working on sophisticated algorithms that promise to make it easier for users to find their next app to download.

One such company is France-based AppGratis, which managed to secure $13.5 million in funding, in a round led by Iris Capital and Orange Publicis. According to CEO Simon Dawlat, the new cash will be used to open new international offices and hire talent to develop new technology.

AppGratis has some seven million users of its app which is available in more than 30 countries. It has seen particularly strong growth in Brazil, India and Japan.

Dawlat said the company picked the investors as they provide “a healthy combination of VC money, mobile DNA, advertising excellence DNA and global reach”.
