No wonder Japan is such a high-tech society when its kids get phones like these. The newly unveiled Junior SH-05 is an Android smartphone with solid specs even for adults, let along pupils. Made for 4th graders (and above), it runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, while the phone’s specs include a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, qHD (540×960 pixels) screen, 12-megapixel camera, GPS and 8GB of built-in storage. In addition, the Junior SH-05 is also a dust- and water-proof device that comes with few specific capabilities, including filtering out potentially unsafe and adult content, and restricting access to applications that can download and run on the phone. Plus, let’s not forget the emergency mode that gives pupils one touch access to preset emergency numbers.

The country’s leading operator, NTT Docomo, will start selling this phone on February 1st. Price was not unveiled. And no, we don’t think it will ever be available outside the Land of the rising Sun.
