According to a report in Bloomberg, flexible displays using Corning’s Willow material won’t be available commercially for at least three years.
James Clappin, president of Corning Glass, said in a Beijing interview that it will take a while for vendors to use the innovative flexible glass. “People are not accustomed to glass you roll up,” Clappin said. “The ability of people to take it and use it to make a product is limited.”
The first implementations of the Willow Glass material may arrive this year, but it wont be used as the centerpiece of Apple’s rumored iWatch. Instead, the material may appear as components within solar panels or smaller touch panels.
