Sony Mobile wants developers to use its Timescape UI as a platform for further enhancing user experiences. To that end, the company unveiled a new Add-on SDK, bringing together a number of APIs for Xperia smartphones, tablets and related Sony products.

The SDK “works” as an extension of the standard Android SDK and includes Smart Extension APIs that allow developers to build apps which support the Android-compatible SmartWatch and Smart Wireless Headset pro.

Then there’s the Small Apps API that makes it possible to build apps which run on top of other apps, and the IR remote API for making apps that exploit IR remote sensors found on some Xperia devices.

Finally, with the Media Infinite API, developers can make use of the Infinite button on the WALKMAN music player. The mentioned button lists apps offering music-related information and services like YouTube and Wikipedia…

And that’s apparently just the start with Sony already working to add more APIs to the Add-on SDK in an effort to make its Xperia suite of products more appealing to both developers and end-users.
