Japan Display is hoping that some handset maker will try to differentiate its next flagship smartphone by making it slightly bigger than competing (current) 5-inch screen devices. Their latest product is a 5.2-inch full HD (1,920×1,080 pixels) panel and as I’m writing this, it’s unclear which OEM will launch a smartphone (or that’s a phablet) with such a big screen.
Here’s what the new display panel is all about:
The new panel was developed by combining white OLED devices and color filters (CFs), while the pixel structure is composed of four-color RGBW. High-definition is attained by combining the company’s low-temperature polycrystalline Si technology (LTPS), white organic EL technology and drive technology.
We’ll get back to you on this as soon as we hear that some handset maker is working on a device with a 5.2-inch screen. Stay tuned in the meantime, k?
