Nokia is about to start selling its mid-end Lumia 521 in Walmart stores across the U.S. The unlocked, SIM-free device will sell for $150 sans any strings attached, though you’ll need some minutes, texts and data from T-Mobile to be able to use the Windows Phone-powered device.
“There is an opportunity for us to offer a very high quality device in the mainstream,” Terry Myerson, head of Microsoft’s Windows Phone unit told Reuters. “That’s where we’ve made progress in the last couple of months and it’s a strategy we’ll continue to explore in the United States.”
The Nokia Lumia 521 is T-Mobile’s variant of the internationally sold Lumia 520 that comes with LTE connectivity support, 4-inch screen and 5-megapixel camera, while Windows Phone 8 is running the show right from the get-go. In addition, it also packs “standard smartphone goodies” like GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and so on.
