Samsung reaction to user complaints about misleading memory claims: use a microSD card

Samsung reaction to user complaints about misleading memory claims

We’ve told you that Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with almost 8GB of pre-installed software, leaving just 8GB (or so) of empty space to store your apps, photos, music and videos. Users from all around the world reacted to this, saying that the Korean company is misleading the public when it says that the 16GB version has 16GB of storage space. Cause when you get the phone, you’re left with only 8 gigs.

In a statement sent to CNET, Samsung said, “For the Galaxy S4 16GB model, approximately 6.85GB occupies [the] system part of internal memory, which is 1GB bigger than that of the Galaxy S3, in order to provide [a] high resolution display and more powerful features to our consumers.”

The handset maker suggests we use a microSD card to store photos, music and videos — cause apps can’t be installed on an external memory. They added that with a 64GB microSD card we still get the phone that has more capacity than best versions of the HTC One and Apple iPhone. Yes that’s true, but then again – there are no doubts in my mind Samsung should put in extra work to minimize its own footprint. With just 8GB of free space on the 16GB Galaxy S4, they shouldn’t really advertise it as a phone with 16GB of storage… cause it isn’t, since you can’t delete all those files and keep your warranty…

That’s kinda lame excuse by Samsung. We KNOW it has a microSD card…

It seems like they’re so stuck on these three figures for their storage options, 16, 32 and 64. Why have they continued with these storage options for so long? Use whatever storage you need for the device’s OS and whatever Samsung software you will install, then promote the phone with the ACTUAL storage on board that’s free to the user.

Advertising the real storage available to a user is a great way to garner praise and loyalty from the mobile phone market. It’s not such a difficult thing to be honest about.
