The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 will have internet speeds double that of other carriers, thanks to components that allow the device to take advantage of Verizon’s upcoming network upgrade.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Verizon has started developing the next phase of its network, which utilizes Verizon’s Advance Wireless Service, or AWS airwaves to improve the capacity of its LTE network. Verizon had acquired AWS airwaves last year from Comcast Corp, and will begin rollout in major cities in the next few months.
Verizon is slated to release more devices that support its AWS spectrum in the future, but the Galaxy S4 is the only device that currently supports the protocol. The Galaxy S4 will only require a software update to enable the AWS service.
