In order to rank in the Top 10 of the iOS App Store, an app must achieve a high number of downloads within 72 hours. App marketing campaigns can boost an app’s rank by generating (read: buying) large number of downloads in a short amount of time. The downloads achieved during the last 24 hours (of the first 72 hours) have the biggest impact on the ranking position.
The added benefit of buying downloads is that purchased installs also increase app visibility, attracting new users along the way. The result is that the number of organic (free) downloads increases as well, driving the effective cost per install down.
Game developers in particular should look at marketing their apps this way as each purchased install generates on average 1 additional organic install during the first three days of the “boost.”
However, it’s not an easy (read: cheap) ride – it takes around 80,000 installs to reach the top 10 overall position in the U.S. App Store. In comparison, in the UK – it takes 26,000 installs, in Germany – 15,000, France – 13,000, Italy – 11,000 and in Spain – 7,000 installs…
