WWDC 2013: Apple Unveils New iOS 7 Music App with iTunes Radio

The new iOS 7 design is here, and Apple’s clearly put some hard work into the most recent release of their mobile OS. The Music app for iOS 7 received much more than just an aesthetic redesign, bringing streaming radio service called iTunes Radio. The service will be available across Apple devices and platforms, such as the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC, and Apple TV.

The app’s interface redesign is stunning, and says goodbye to cover flow for a new landscape view that puts album art front and center. Tapping on the album art shows users which song is currently playing and track listing for the selected album.

iTunes Radio parallels Google’s Play Music All Access a bit, offering syncing with iTunes libraries and streaming music and personalized music selection. Apple’s caveat here is that the service will be available for free, with the inclusion of iAds, which will take the form of audio announcements as well as visual ones. For $24.99 a year, users can forgo the ads by subscribing to Apple’s iTunes Match service. The service syncs a user’s library via iCloud, which allows users to access their music from virtually anywhere.
