Looks like Sony is gearing towards updating its Xperia Z smartphone by replacing the built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU with a more powerful Snapdragon 800 unit.
The information comes from highly-informed Eldar Murtazin who claims he managed to play with such a device, adding that the unit he tested also comes with a fancy Super LCD3 touchscreen, which is used in the HTC One. However, what Eldar got was a prototype unit and the final model may actually have a worse display.
It is said that Sony may launch the updated Xperia Z later this year, helping the Japanese company stay relevant in the mobile game while providing a solid (and water-proof) alternative to the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. Speaking of Galaxy S4, it may also get Snapdragon 800 at some point in the second half of 2013…
