It’s a sort of trend among Chinese handset makers to launch devices with powerful front-facing cameras. We’ve seen the Oppo Ulike 2 and Huawei Ascend P6 with 5-megapixel front-facing cameras, and MeituKiss that has a whopping 8-megapixel camera sensor on the front.
Now we have a new device with dual 13-megapixel cameras coming from THL. You got that right – the Android smartphone called Monkey King has a 13-megapixel camera both on the front and back.
And while we’re not sure why would anyone need something like this, guess folks driving innovation at THL don’t agree with us. Having a 13-megapixel front shooter does sound gimmicky and may get some press headlines, but the use case of such a device is unclear. Perhaps ladies use it instead of mirror; perhaps not. It’s really hard to tell. And no – we’ve no idea whether the THL Monkey King will ever be released in the West. Not that we necessarily need it. What do you say?
