Nokia Windows Phones getting Bluetooth 4.0 update soon

Nokia will soon release firmware updates for its range of Windows Phone devices to include Bluetooth 4.0 support to the mix. Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) will also come included, enabling Lumia smartphone owners to pair their devices with a range of accessories, some of which may be unveiled by the Finnish company.

According to The Verge, the majority of Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 range will be updated — including the Lumia 820 and 920, as well as lower-end models like Lumia 520, 620 and 720 — since most of them already ship with chipsets that support Bluetooth 4.0.

As for the mentioned Nokia accessories, it is said they’ll work in pair with Nokia services, some of which may rely on the existing services such as Here Maps and Here Drive.

The Bluetooth 4.0 update will be delivered to Nokia devices as part of the forthcoming “Amber” update in the coming weeks.

This is something Microsoft should do, not Nokia. Bluetooth 4.0 + LE is a must-have feature these days…

I noticed Microsoft store quietly started selling Fitbit. Since Fitbit doesn’t work with current windows phones, why are they selling the product? I believe there are MS developers wearing Fitbit working on BT4 and Fitbit app for Windows Phone. There is already a Windows 8 app. Most of the code thus far is already written.
