Yeah, we knew this is coming and voila… Xiaomi has officially announced the Red Rice smartphone, making it the lowest-end device in its portfolio.
As we’ve told you before, this phone will pack quite a bang for the buck. It rocks a 4.7-inch 720p HD screen, 1.5GHz quad-core processor (MediaTek MT6589T) and the price of just $130. Rest of the specs include an 8-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front cameras, 1GB of RAM, dual SIM support (with dual stand-by), 2,000mAh battery and 4GB of expandable storage. Plus, let’s not forget Xiaomi’s own custom ROM called MIUI, now in version 5, that runs on top of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
As I’m writing this, there are no indications that the Red Rice will ever leave the shores of China. We guess it will be available in few surrounding countries, but that doesn’t include Europe and North America. Except if something drastically changes in Xiaomi’s strategy and we’ve no indications it will…
