Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has raised its target for smartphone sales this year to 20 million units. The new goal was set after the company ended the first half of the year with just over 7 million units shipped, leaving some 13 million to sell by the end of this year.
Xiaomi is confident it can hit the target, arguing that traditional higher sales at the end of the year would work in its favor. Moreover, they’re also planning to launch a new flagship, Mi3 and benefit from the sales of the recently launched Red Rice smartphone (which is available for the equivalent of $130).
Xiaomi is currently China’s sixth biggest smartphone vendor, having beat Apple for handset sales in the country during the Q2 2013. Aside from smartphones, the company is also preparing to start making tablets with their first such product hitting the market by year’s end.
