Nokia's Windows 8.1 RT tablet launching in September?

Nokia is apparently working on a Windows RT-based tablet. Yup, according to UnwiredView, the Finns want to invest in the platform that didn’t bring a dime to Microsoft, quite the contrary.

Rumored specs of this device are top-notch and include a 10.1-inch 1080p Full HD touchscreen, 2.15GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, and 32 GB of built-in storage. Moreover, it will be available with a detachable keyboard/stand making for a Surface-like look and feel.

It is said that the Nokia tablet will apparently be announced in September and hit the store shelves in mid-October, with AT&T and/or Verizon Wireless likely to offer it in the States.

Now we want to see Nokia finally entering the tablet market but they should skip Windows RT and go straight to Windows 8. Let’s face it – the RT isn’t actually a desirable platform and thus far not enough users expressed their interest for it. And the same situation is with developers… so why bother?

Windows RT is pretty much dead – it’s better to focus on “regular” Windows 8.

People say Windows RT is dead didn’t they say that about Android tablets when they first came out? Android tablets did not have apps unless they could use Android phoneApps .The touch screen response was bad but Google did not give up and the
Android apps came and the OS got better. Microsoft will do the same with Windows RT,.. folks Microsoft said that they would support their surface Windows Rt computer for 3 years so for at least 2 more years.Windows RT will be around so forget about it being dead!

OK, so Nokia is entering the RT tablet market after everyone else has bailed? And they’re entering it with the same form factor that has failed for everyone else, and which the market has in general moved away from to smaller devices?

Good lord man, Nokia management is even more incompetent than Microsoft management! Elop must be Ballmer’s MiniMe.

Are you suggesting that as an Asus fan,or a general user

May be he paid to much for his Asus windows8 tablet and is defending that premium price.

I am typing this on My RT its a Great tablet, enjoying it every day. You know whats bad braindead reviewers. Windows RT is a Great OS so reserves another change.

    • the slayer

so great MS had a $900m writedown on it, while oems are abandoning it. Metro sucks…………….problem is android has kicked nokia to the kerb

Ok be happy with your toyDroid. ????

The form factor looks so much like the Acer Iconia tab W700-6831, I don’t see how Nokia isn’t infringing on some patent. Hopefully they will put out a Win8 Pro tablet with a microSD and SIM slot for a reasonable price. That would sell! Not sure about the RT move if the rumors are true. Just doesn’t seem to make sense unless the price point is so low that people can’t resist. Kinda like HP’s webOS tablet after the price drop. Maybe it will be bundled with the Win8 phone and subsidized through ATT…that could work also if marketed well. We’ll see…
