EA released Plants vs. Zombies 2 a little less than a week ago for iOS devices, and the highly anticipated game has already racked up 16 million downloads, making it EA’s most successful mobile game launch ever.

Plants Vs. Zombies 2 not only set records for EA, but for the App Store as well. In merely 5 days, the title grabbed the #1 top game position in 137 countries, and garnering a 4.5/5 star rating. Plants vs. Zombies 2 players have thus far racked up over 25 million hours played.
The sequel is currently available for free for iOS devices, and sports a free-to-play model, which differs from the original title’s upfront fee. Looking at the numbers though, it looks as though players are not bothered by the payment model.

Further, day one downloads nearly doubled EA’s previous mobile record, and in five days the game rocketed to the #1 top game position on the App Store in 137 countries worldwide (on either the iPad or iPhone charts).
