September is nearly upon, bringing with it cooler weather, re-opened schools, and a new crop of free games for Playstation Plus subscribers! Sony‘s been killing it with its “Instant Games Collection” lineup of monthly free downloads and September’s selections are no change. Here’s what’s coming down the pipeline for PS Plus users!
Sony hasn’t announced the order of releases but all of the announced free titles will be dropping through the month. This latest PS Plus update’s star is the Resident Evil Chronicles HD Collection for the PS3. Featuring The HD versions of both The Umbrella Chronicles and The Darkside Chronicles, these light gun shooters are made with the PS Move in mind but are playable with a regular Dualshock 3 as well. Get ready for some zombie blasting fun with these popular Resident Evil spinoffs!
Another HD remake fills out the PS3 offerings, the beautifully remastered PS2 classic, Ico. Explore a breathtaking world while trying to save a mysterious girl in Team Ico’s first game and the spiritual predecessor to Shadow of the Colossus. This game was beautiful and intriguing when it came out more than 10 years ago, and it looks amazing now. It’s obvious that the HD remake is more than just an upscaling, as the beautiful art style of the games holds up against any modern game.
Galaga Legions DX rounds out the home console offerings for September, bringing some old school twitch arcade fun. This new version of Galaga adds some fancy, modern graphics and driving techno soundtrack, as well as new modes, upgrades and abilities.
Sony’s got the hook up for portable gamers too. Vita users aren’t getting the shaft either, and even the aging PSP will get some love this September. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will be a free download for both handhelds. Want to get pumped up for the upcoming release of GTA V? Download Liberty City Stories and hone your criminal mastermind skills.
Also, Vita gamers are getting a free download of one of the best and most beautiful platformers ever made. Rayman: Origins will be free on the Vita for PS Plus subscribers. Its sequel, Rayman: Legends is releasing in early September and Vita gamers have a great chance to catch up on the hand drawn fantasy goodness in advance.
So there you have it! It looks like another great lineup of free games from Sony. While September’s lineup does seem to skew to older games and remakes, the selection is very solid. Also, the price is right! Let us know if you’ll be grabbing any of these titles next month!
