We’re still not sure whether Apple will make a deal with China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile operator by subscriber numbers, but in the meantime its smartphone is offered by China Telecom, the country’s third largest carrier. And it apparently brings them some serious cash.
China Telecom has recently released some financial and business results, saying that it managed to add 18.3 million 3G subscribers for the six-month period ending in June, pushing the number of customers who subscribe to mobile data plans to 87.33 million, or 50% of the company’s total mobile subscriber base. Revenue from mobile data increased by 39% to 26.2 billion Yuan ($4.3 billion). At the same time, the average monthly data usage of 3G subscribers increased by 51% to from the same period last year, the company’s first with the iPhone.
Overall, 3G subscribers on China Telecom increased by 26.5% since the end of 2012. And yes, they have Apple’s Jesus-phone to thank for that…
