A security breach at Vodafone Germany has compromised around 2 million customer accounts, exposing customers’ names, addresses, birth dates and bank account information. Vodafone is assuring customers that passwords, PIN numbers and credit card details were not accessed, however Vodafone is advising customers to keep an eye for strange account activity or phishing attempts.
According to Reuters, Vodafone claims, “this attack was only possible with the utmost criminal energy as well as insider knowledge and happened deep within the IT infrastructure of the company.” That being said, it looks like someone inside of Vodafone Germany was implicit in the attack.
The attack was carried out in early September, so if you think you may have been affected by this hack, you might want to check your records for the past few weeks.
Vodafone is notifying affected customers by mail, and has details for compromised accounts on their website.
